António Guterres opens the SDG conference

UN Secretary-General António Guterres opens the conference "10 Years to Go - How to Reach the Sustainable Development Goals".

THE FUTURE IS NOW. We must act now for a future worth living - and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). At the one-day conference "10 Years to Go - How to Reach the Sustainable Development Goals", we want to talk with experts from various disciplines, storytellers and representatives of German politics and civil society about ways, possibilities and opportunities to achieve these essential goals.

We are particularly honoured that UN Secretary-General António Guterres will open the conference. Guterres took office in 2017. Before that, he was UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for 10 years.
He headed the UNHCR during some of the most serious refugee crisis of recent decades, including the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, and the crises in Southern Sudan, the Central African Republic and Yemen. The number of refugees has nearly doubled during this period.

At the SDG conference we would like to discuss three central questions: What can we contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), what challenges are we facing and how can we overcome them?

The SDG conference will focus on three closely interlinked SDGs:

•    SDG 2 - Zero Hunger
•    SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation
•    SDG 13 - Measures for climate protection
