Film screenings of Ai Weiwei take place despite cancellation of the Sony Center

After the cancellation at short notice of an art installation and the film screenings of the artist and human rights activist Ai Weiwei at the IMAX cinema by the Sony Center Berlin, the documentaries will now be shown in two special screenings at the cinema in the Kulturbrauerei. On 10th of October, the Human Rights Film Festival Berlin will show two movies of Ai Weiwei: CORONATION (2020) and VIVOS (2019).

Screening program on 10th of October at the cinema in the Kulturbrauerei:
17.00 CORONATION (115 min)
20.30 VIVOS (112 min)

In the planned art installation "Reframe", Ai Weiwei focuses on the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean. The work consists of eight rubber dinghies that were to be installed on the façade of the IMAX cinema in the Sony Center. Unfortunately, the installation has to be cancelled completely until further notice. The Human Rights Film Festival Berlin deeply regrets the cancellation of the art installation.

When in 2014 a Mexican school bus was attacked by unknown persons and 43 young people disappeared without a trace, the world was horrified. The waves of indiscriminate violence in Mexico had reached a level that could no longer be ignored. But investigations failed because of loose theories and corruption, while the drug war continued to rage and claimed victims. The Chinese artist and documentarist Ai Weiwei gives a voice to the survivors and relatives of the catastrophe in his investigative and deeply human film.
