Why we launched a Human Rights Film Festival...

To inspire people and bring about sustainable change in thinking and acting: With this goal in mind, we launched the Human Rights Film Festival Berlin in 2018. Already with the first edition under the patronage of Ai Weiwei, the film festival was able to establish itself as a institution in the Berlin cultural landscape. The great interest and the consistently positive feedback made it easy for us to make the decision to hold the Human Rights Film Festival Berlin every year in the future.

As a humanitarian and development organisation we try to achieve change on two levels: With our projects on the ground we support people in the areas of nutrition and health, water and hygiene, livelihoods and psychosocial assistance as well as the development of livelihoods. With our campaign and public relations work, we want to give people in Germany an understanding of the reality of our work and show them the possibilities of engagement.

At the same time we want to open up space for new perspectives. This is exactly where the Human Rights Film Festival comes in: More than any other medium, films are suited to create understanding for topics and regions that seem to be geographically and culturally far removed from our own everyday lives.
With this year's festival we would like to draw attention to the grievances in this world, initiate change and facilitate dialogue. The festival is intended to be a platform for exchange, discussion and networking - between civil society organisations, film-makers, activists, experts, school classes and all people who are working for a better world.

We wish you many new food for thought, insights and inspiring moments!
