Travis Wilkerson has nightmares. His fears of a nuclear apocalypse won’t let go of him. He embarks on a road trip across the United States with his wife Erin and their three children. The family’s journey across the American West becomes a film essay about nuclear threats past and present. The apocalypse is omnipresent, and their trip shows that destruction has long been inscribed into this country’s landscape and history. From the Sand Creek massacre to underground missile silos and a plutonium factory, the journey continues to the cradle of US nuclear weapons. The family picnics in front of the security fences of a nuclear test site, and while Erin and the kids play in the water, Travis walks down the beach with a Geiger counter, always with one question on his mind: ‘What do you do, if they push that button?’
