During the 2022 Colombian presidential elections, left-wing activist Francia Márquez unexpectedly becomes Vice President. With her campaign, she challenges not only the status quo in the conservative-ruled country but also the narrative of what a Black woman can achieve in Colombia. This biographical documentary follows Márquez’ career at close quarters for fifteen years. Director Juan Mejía Botero shows how oppression and anger can generate enough strength to change the power dynamics of an entire country. An encounter with a strong woman and a grassroots movement that can serve as inspiration for activists all over the world.
- Followed by Q&A: The screenings on 10 Oct and 12 Oct will be followed by a Q&A with director Juan Mejía Botero.
