Content note: Suicide
In Southwest Georgia, late-career lawyer Marty Rosenbluth and his assistant Alondra fight for human rights on a daily basis, representing people stuck in one of the largest US immigration detention centre. In 2023 alone, 33,000 people were detained here. Most of them have never committed a criminal offence. And yet, the conditions are almost indistinguishable from those in US prisons. With a respectful eye, the directing duo spends five years accompanying charismatic Marty in his fight against hopelessness and for more empathy in an inhumane system.

  • Followed by a Q&A: All screenings will be followed by a Q&A with directors Ole Elfenkaemper and Kathrin Seward, as well as lawyer and protagonist Marty Rosenbluth. The film's editor Nikos Vavouris will also be on site on 8 and 9 October.
